One basement, six graphics cards, one rug pull and a watchlist that will not stop growing. All times are local and all feelings are real.
Alarm. Phone battery at 11%. He opens the miner dashboard before his eyes fully agree to be open. Hashrate green. Shares accepted. He whispers "we're so back" to a silent basement that smells like toasted plastic and ambition.
Coffee. He scrolls Twitter for alpha. A thread titled "THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE (but also buy)" has 4,812 likes. He likes it, then unlikes it, then likes it again so the algorithm knows he's serious.
The rig sings. Six consumer cards, one PSU that came with a free mousepad, cables routed with the artistry of a raccoon. He pats a GPU like a horse. "You're doing great, buddy." The card replies with a 78 °C shrug.
Work Zoom. Camera off. He's "reviewing documents." He is reviewing a Discord announcement: Tokenomics v3: fairer, more fair, the fairest. He nods. Fair is good. He mines harder in spirit.
Lunch is a protein bar and a chart. The coin is up 40% on news that a "Tier-1 CEX listing is imminent," according to a guy whose profile picture is a frog in a spacesuit. He calculates ROI on a napkin. The napkin is optimistic. The napkin has never paid an electric bill.
The rug.
It arrives the way all rugs arrive: suddenly, and with a Medium post.
"Due to regulatory uncertainty and a surprise audit of our vibes, the team is pivoting to AI. Liquidity has been strategically relocated for safekeeping. Community first. ❤️"
Twitter avatar gone. Discord locked. The website 404s into a stock photo of a handshake. The chart draws a perfect cliff, then a flatline, then a tiny bounce from people who still believe a bounce is a strategy.
His dashboard still says "mining." He is mining a ghost. Shares accepted into the void. Hashrate proud. Wallet empty of meaning.
He sits very still. The fans keep screaming like nothing sacred died. He opens the pool stats. Unpaid balance: 0.0000. He refreshes. Still 0.0000. He refreshes harder. Physics declines to negotiate.
Bargaining phase. He Googles "can a rug be un-rugged." He finds a Telegram group of survivors arguing about "the real whitepaper." Someone posts a screenshot of the founders in Bali. Someone else posts a cope equation. He closes the tab before the cope can finish loading.
Dinner with his partner.
He walks downstairs. The rig is still roaring, loyal as a dog that doesn't know the family moved. He kills the miner. Silence floods the basement like a cold front. For the first time all day he hears the refrigerator upstairs. It sounds judgmental.
Acceptance, sort of. He opens eBay.

Listings bloom. A dusty tray of datacenter cards.
He scrolls past a 4-pack that looks like it survived a war and a relationship. He adds it to his watchlist. Then another. Then a "mystery GPU lot, 8 cards, no returns."
He tells himself this is research. He tells himself the next coin will be different. He tells himself server silicon has better vibes.
He drafts a message to the seller: Do these still have the power connectors? Asking for a friend who definitely learned his lesson.
He deletes "definitely." He deletes "learned his lesson." He sends: Interested. Can you confirm they POST?
The basement is quiet. The watchlist is not. Somewhere, a batch of server-grade GPUs waits in a warehouse, unaware it is about to inherit a dream, a power bill, and a man who still believes the next dashboard will stay green.
No software can tell you whether a coin's team will still be there at 3:19 p.m. A few checks catch a lot of trouble before your cards do:
